The museum offers special events throughout the calendar year to include afternoon teas, lectures, literary programs, community partnerships, craft shows, and more. These events are part of the fundraising efforts to preserve the Hunter House Victorian Museum. Please check our schedule of events below every few months as it is updated seasonally. Reservations are required for all events. To make a reservation call the museum at 757-623-9814, and please leave a voicemail if we do not answer. Poe-etry Picnic in the Garden

Join us for a delightful afternoon September 12th from 2pm to 4pm in the gardens for a preview of our upcoming performances of Nevermore by Half Light Theatre. Bring your favorite picnic treats, blankets, and chairs and enjoy light music and reading selections from Half Light Theatre’s Poe Players.
Free to the public, but donations are appreciated.
Witch of Pungo Tea

Nevermore: An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe

An immersive theatrical event, 12 of Poe’s stories and poems are adapted and performed throughout the museum bringing Poe’s elegant prose and old world feel to Norfolk with a modern day perspective. This production will be provided by New York’s Half Light Theatre. Tickets and reservations will be made by Half Light Theatre Productions. Space is limited so reserve your spot today!

Lavender for Luck: A Witchy Afternoon Tea

The Nevermore Market is an enchanting celebration of creativity, drawing inspiration from the dark, mysterious, and gothic works of Edgar Allan Poe. With booths in the garden space and inside the museum brimming with handcrafted goods, art pieces, and unique trinkets, this market showcases a diverse array of creations. From hauntingly beautiful paintings and intricate creations to handmade jewelry and vintage-inspired clothing, each item reflects the gothic elegance of Mr. Poe’s work.
A Note on our Tea Fundraisers
Our biggest and most popular way to raise funds has always been our monthly themed teas. We regret that due to the size and nature of our facility, we are unable to provide accommodations for dietary needs or restrictions. All menus are set for each event and cannot be changed. Should you wish to attend one of our teas and bring your own food from home while partaking in our tea beverage service and event atmosphere, we can offer a discounted price of $15 for such occasions. Please make this request at the time you make your reservations.
Our teas typically include scones with jam or curd, three sweet items, three savory items, and our signature hot tea- Miss Eloise’s afternoon tea, which is a black tea with Jasmine. We do not offer additional tea options as we are not a restaurant or tea house and these special tea programs are designed with set menus. You are welcome to bring tea bags from home if you require decaffeinated options; we are happy to provide you with hot water, sugar, milk, and lemon as needed.
